So this was it, time now to find a new OB in Fredericksburg. I was referred to Dr. Barbara Mercado by Christa, my sister-in-law. I called the office and they scheduled me for a confirmation appointment and a consultation with the doctor. 6 weeks put me on December 19th, Derek's birthday! The night before we had gone to Mason to see The Killers in concert! (My favorite). Derek had already taken the next day off, so I decided that would be a fabulous birthday gift!
The office is so nice and new, right next to Mary Washington Hospital. My vitals were taken and a urinalysis. After that, we waited in an exam room until Dr. Mercado came in. She is extremely nice and soft spoken. Her sweet voice told us that the urinalysis confirms the pregnancy and that based on the date of my last period, I was about 7 weeks along and that the due date is estimated for August 4th. She then scheduled us for a sonogram appointment. Usually performed at 8 weeks, that put us in the week of Christmas and her schedule was booked. Being able to announce our news at Christmas would have been fabulous, but we took an appointment for January 4th and held in the excitement through the holidays.
